Rainy Days and Mondays

Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

Ironically, our area of Colorado had a ban on fires and fireworks over the 4th, and it rained for 6 hours straight last night. So even if there hadn't been a ban, we would have been rained out anyway.

I had a house full of bummed-out young men and eternally grateful dogs.

We were in the car this morning, and I was thinking about how gray days always seem to be so depressing.

Then one of my old favorite songs came on the radio.

In moments I was be-bopping along to Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" and feeling great. The guys were squinching down in their seats in mortification, but I didn't care!

So I thought of 10 songs that ALWAYS put a smile on my face, a hop in my step and junk in my trunk.

Wait a minute.

The junk comes from cheesecake bites. Never mind.

In no particular order:

Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
Mony Mony (the Billy Idol version)
Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf
You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate
Bad Girls by Donna Summer
Rubberband Man by The Spinners
Smooth by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas
Should I Stay or Should I Go? by The Clash
Tubthumping by Chumbawamba
You Better Be Good To Me by Tina Turner

How about you? What's guaranteed to put a smile on your face and/or embarrass the kids/spouse when you start shaking your booty?

Heh heh heh, I could give you five hundred songs that make me either sing or dance... But here are a few:
1. Bohemian Rhapsody
2. You've lost that Loving Feeling
3. Hey Joe
4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5. Gypsy Woman (Curtis Mayfield--really, anything by Mr. Mayfield--especially in that Superfly era)
6. Blister in the Sun
7. Anarchy in the UK
8. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (San Esmerelda version--but Nina Simone will do as well)
9. A lot of Enimem's stuff. I confess, I think he's hysterically funny.
10.Anything by Concrete Blonde

And a lot more. The wife and I will do a couple of these together, but he really like the Pet Shop Boys...

Anything by ABBA, and any down home good ole boy shit-kickin' country tune. Not the crap they call country nowadays, but the real stuff . . .

Oh, and try Springsteen's new album, "Emancipation, the Pete Seeger Sessions".

Oooh, definitely 'Just got lucky' by the Jo Boxers (circa 1983), 'And we danced' by the unfortunately-named Hooters (1985) and, appropriately, 'Dancin'with myself' by Billy Idol!

Oh, and ANYTHING by Abba, B52s, Bronski beat/Jimmy Somerville and....last but not least, Boney M!!

You listed several of mine Attila, and I'm also a fan of the old style country. I love George Jones. I'm a big 80's fan as well, and also, my biggest guilty sin - Emimem.

I would confess to being weird here, but it seems like I'm in good company. Most everyone seems to have a good eclectic mix.

Oh - all time favorite song

It's Raining Men - don't know who it's by, but I love it.

Keeks---You're just plain weird. Kidding. ;-)

Pooper and Milly---My 16 year old has recently discovered Abba. And the Go-gos (he walked around calling them the "Do-dos" until some kind soul enlightened him!) Now I've got Dancing Queen stuck in my head!

RIF--Thanks for popping in and your kind words. Saturday Night and Time Warp! How could I forget those?

Mary---I'd have to add Keep Your Hands to Yourself to my list of all time hollerin' songs too!

Kathy--remembering bepopping around the mountains to Smooth? Good times, friend!

Nikki--I'm with you on It's Raining Men! I think it was remade by one of the Spice Girls. At least the Bridget Jones soundtrack one was.

RC--now I'm going to have to find that one!

Samantha---Queen---how could I have forgotten them?

Nightmare...ok, now that IS geeky. LOL
