Day 41

Grrrr! I've been having some internet connection problems in the last couple of days. Sorry!

The kid is doing great. He's been zipping around the unit in his walker in an effort to get stronger. They removed his stomach tube on Tuesday, and he still has some residual pain from that, but he's not letting it keep him down.

Of course, the vicodin they gave him yesterday might have helped a bit. ;-)

A rep from the care hospital approached us and asked us if they could take a picture of Big Kid and do a write-up on him. Apparently the speed of his recovery is quite remarkable especially since "he had had such a slim chance of survival."

Wha??? Yes, we knew he was very very ill and near death, but that's the first we'd heard of the original odds.

So I did what I've been doing way too much of in the past several weeks. I burst into tears. Again. Is there ever going to be a day when that doesn't happen? I think I've cried more in the last 6 weeks than I have in the last 10 years combined.

Big Kid put his arms around me. "It's ok, Mom," he said. "I beat it. I beat it."

Yes he did.

We're hoping that he can come home in a couple of days. We have the home therapy and care in place. Little Guy is going to move into the loft for a few weeks and let Big Kid have his room, since it's on the main level and won't require stairs.

Can't wait.

Thanks so much for sticking with us during this horrible ordeal. Thank you for all your prayers and kind comments. I don't think I would have made it through this without all of the support.

Many Blessings,

ATM

Absolutely great news! And it's fine to cry--after all, he is your baby boy.

A remarkable baby boy.

He beat the odds. Yes he did! It's just fantastic!

So glad he continues to push for progress. Hopefully he'll be home very soon and you and your family can celebrate Christmas together.

I'm still sending prayers for his continued recovery!

Home if a few days! Wonderful!

And tears are just nature's way of allowing us to vent all the accumulated fear and frustration - let 'em flow...

Your strength though all this has been amazing, and it is perfectly normal to shed a bunch of tears.

I am so happy for you all. Just reading that Big Kid was coming home made me smile and brought tears to my eyes also!

Hey, I'll let you in on a secret....I was thinking all the while Big Kid was in the hospital to contact Oprah. I decided against it only because I didn't know if you would approve. I think she might have taken Big Kid's story since his condition was so scary.

I am just so happy to hear about his quick recovery!

It's been over ten years since my bright boy's stroke. Sometimes it still sneaks up and takes my breath away that we nearly lost him. And our first garden girlie very nearly didn't make it through her first night. Those eight days in the NICU were terrifying.

It will get easier, though, with time, and you'll use this to remember through the trying times the blessings you have, that he is with you, when it could have been so different. You'll still grit your teeth, but...

I'm glad his recovery has come so far and so sorry that it nearly was not. ((()))

So happy for you and your family! I have to tell you that your blog gave me the kick in the butt to go get my family vaccinated for H1N1. I wasn't going to do it. Thought we could just breeze through the flu season. But your blog made me realize that this can happen to ANYONE. I am overjoyed with your happy ending. Good for Big Kid. Please tell him that some crazy stranger that reads your blog thinks he is her hero!!

I can certainly understand the shock of hearing he was close to death and the immediate break-down afterwards. I love hearing about his progress and most of all, that he's out of danger. SO much for your family to be thankful for during this time of year. It sounds like everything is finally falling into place and I'll bet he'll back new and improved in no time at all. xo

Doing the Happy Dance for you and Big Kid. So thankful to God that he saw your son through this terrible frightening ordeal. Let your tears come when they need to. Better tears of gratefulness than of grief.

XO

I don't know how you could have kept from crying the past weeks. It will take time to relax and understand he is recovering. Hey, you're a mom, just because he grown you're a mom.

Oh gosh - just found you off the Fifty Factor with Joanna. I'm so sorry the times you've been having, but how fantastic that your boy has beaten the odds against him.

It's so trying as a parent to have to endure the suffering of our kids - because when they suffer we suffer.

Stay strong mama...
