You know, I don't know whether to give this criminal a big wet smackaroo, or what. When I saw this article, all I felt is relief. How crazy is that?
My hubby is more cynical. "It's probably a 20-year difference in a prison sentence if he gets caught, and he's not the idiot".
Well maybe so, but we both agree that on April 5th, some mother unfortunately-not-named-by-the-media ate a great big honking steaming bowl of stupid for breakfast. With raisins and a sprinkling of dumbass.
That night, she not only left her keys in her car while she went into an auto store to get oil, but left her sleeping 18-month-old baby as well.
A car-thief drove off with her car.
And brought it back two minutes later.
While she was in the parking lot yelling at him, he ran away and called over his shoulder, "You're lucky you had your kid back there. I ain't gonna do that with a kid in the car."
What kind of idiot parent leaves their baby in the car in this day and age? Unlocked. With the keys inside. At night. Really?
And what does it say about me when I find myself more pissed off at her than at the would-be thief?

steaming bowl of stupid indeed. The thief ought to get a slap on the wrist, this time.
It says you have your priorities in order. Weirdly, it seems like the thief sort of did too.
Some people...I just don't understand.
That's a prime example of how people make their own grief. She probably also leaves her purse in the shopping cart and wanders off looking at stuff and when the kid is a little older she'll leave HIM in the cart too.
As for the thief, good that he returned, but he's STILL a criminal for stealing the ride and he should be charged with kidnapping too. He stole a kid surrounded by a vehicle! The law doesn't give any do-overs....there's no King's X in crime.
Hi Attila,
Lordy, Lordy. “The mother COULD (???) be cited with leaving a child unattended and leaving her keys in an unlocked car—both misdemeanors.” WTF??? The Jacksonville, Florida Child Protective Service agency should step in and investigate this “mother” thoroughly. The 18-month-old boy would be better off living with a relative (providing they’re reliable and competent) or placed in a Foster Home until (if) this woman can get her act together. This is abysmal conduct; please serve her up a HUGE steaming bowl of stupid!
At least the thief had THE SENSE not to steal a car with a baby in it.
Unlike the dippy mother who left the child alone in it - no brains, no sense.
WTF?????
I'm with you, girl. I think they're both big, fat idiots but I find myself being madder at the mom.
Bloody Hell! What the hell did she think she was doing? That is just sooo scary
Two stupids. Stupid-mom-leaving-baby-in-car is even worse than stupid-stealing-car. What a bunch of stupids.
I'm impressed with the would-be thief. Honestly. He restored some of my faith, that she helped to diminish.
The theif has a conscience.
The mother doesn't have a brain, that works.
And people think that gays will do a worse job raising children???
what's really bad is that i've heard this story before, with varying details. parent leaves kid in car, car is stolen, car is returned or dumped with kid in it. apparently it's more common than it should be.
Yeah, the thief was stupid for stealing the car....but the "mother"?
What a dumb bitch!!!
They ought to make new laws and slap cuffs on the idiots who'd jeopardize their kid's lives like that.
What kind of idiot? The SAME idiot that is a mother of a girl that goes to sarah's preschool. I SWEAR these type of idiot parents are outbreeding us.
The theif? I have to agree with your husband. He most certainly is NOT an idiot. he might be a theif, but he knows better than to steal a kid of a bad parent. Can you imagine the trouble he'd have trying to undo the bad parenting of this idiot women?
You should ABSOLUTELY be more pissed off at the mother than the theif. At least he's smart,a nd left. Thats poor kid is stuck with an idiot for a parent.
Yeah, that's pretty stupid. But you should check out the story in Minneapolis this week about the stepdad who decided he didn't want to watch his jailed wife's toddler any longer so he called the cops and claimed that the boy was abandoned. That's stupid.
Wow. Thief or no, he had more integrity than the mother! He could've just abandoned both car and baby, or abandoned the baby, anywhere. Instead, he took a risk even greater than stealing the car in the first place. He came back to return the baby.
It would be a far bigger tragedy if I had a baby, not if I left it in the car and it was stolen by a potentially very loving and nurturing (albeit criminal) parent.
Geezzz...that is surreal.
Oh boy.... geez.....
major party foul!
A thief who had common sense?! He should have shared some with that dumb woman!
