Opening Up a Can of Whup-Ass

I really feel like breaking my foot off in a certain somebody's butt right now.

Last month I wrote about Little Guy's romance in A Lid for Every Pot. Things have been going really nice for them, and they're still spending time together. They're getting together tomorrow afternoon at her house to hang out and have dinner.

Anyway, Little Guy came home from school last night and was feeling horribly upset. It's kind of confusing, but Hot Chick's mom and I more or less got to the bottom of it a little later.

Hot Chick is having a hard time in school this year. She feels like some girls are picking on her, and she's not enjoying school very much. There is a girl in their transitions class I'll call Sally.

Hot Chick and Sally just don't get along at all, which hey, happens in real life. You're not going to like everybody you meet, and everybody isn't going to like you.

Sally has a sister who is also a student in the high school, but doesn't have disabilities and isn't part of the transitions class. I guess she has too much time on her hands, or thinks that stirring the sh*t-pot for Hot Chick is a sisterly thing to do.

She pulled Little Guy aside and told him some bad things about Hot Chick, including that she is "cheating on him". Honestly, Little Guy doesn't really know what that means except in a vague way. Also, he has such a sunny disposition that he doesn't like to say or think bad things about other people, even if they're cruel to him.

So Sister dragged Little Guy over to confront Hot Chick with her cheating, and Hot Chick (who's a little more savvy than my son) was terribly hurt by the whole thing.

In return, Little Guy---who wouldn't ever try to hurt anybody's feelings deliberately---and didn't really understand what was going on in the first place, was upset for having upset her. Apparently some para-educators had to get involved with the whole drama and straighten some of it out.

It's all sooooooo...High School.

Wait. It's all so High School.

On one hand, I guess I should feel that this is really a "normal" bunch of crap that Little Guy is experiencing. Something that all teens go through. Wasn't mainstreaming him supposed to provide him with the same experiences as his peers? Good as well as bad?

On the other hand, I want to put on my bunny slippers and break my foot off in that girl's heinie. How dare she insinuate herself into Little Guy and Hot Chick's relationship, when it's been such a good thing for both of them? Who in the hell does she think she is?

So Hubby and I sat Little Guy down to make sure he understood what had happened. Some people may seem to be nice, but if all they do is tell you lies and try to make you mad at others, then they really aren't your friend. Little Guy's friendship with Hot Chick is between the two of them, and not anyone else's business. If they're happy with the way things are going, then that's all that matters.

I put a call into the transitions leader to give her a head's up, in case there's some fall-out.

But damn, my foot is itching.

oooooh, this makes me so mad. I know it is high school stuff, but I still hate it and I would be right there with you with the slippers, kicking her in the ass. That is just so mean!! Life lessons can be mean, but this was just manipulation, for fun. I think the girl should be held accountable. I really do.

For the life of me, I just don't understand why people/teens enjoy being so mean. I know, I know, I was a teen once too, but I just don't remember getting enjoyment out of intentionally trying to mess with people's emotions or hurt them.
I think you handled it really well. Hope things are better.

High Schools AND Jr. High Schools can breed some pretty evil little female hellions fer durn sure. The only time I ever got involved with my kid's choice of friends when they were that age was when they hooked up with some hateful little winch.

Keep those bunny slippers warmed up, ya might need em yet.

I think this definately requires bunny slipper intervention.

WTF is sally's problem? Sounds like she's jealous that the two have a nice thing going, something she apparantly cant have.

You know the old saying about spoiling other people's happiness...

And, oddly, twisted, deliberately nasty people like Sally and her sister are the ones society deems "normal."

Pull back with the bunny slipper - it all sounds so very much like typical High School madness. Brings back all sorts of crappy memories of when my kids were there. Gossip, intrigue, cruelty, bullying...
As long as Little Guy understands what's going on (and it sounds like you explained it well) I think he can handle it. Gotta give him that opportunity.
He sounds like such a sweetheart!

I have to agree. The foot in the arse route is oh-so tempting, but it is part of the "normal" high school experience. Talking with him, a lot, will help.

And taking Sally aside and threatening to publish an ad in the year book stating she still sleeps in footie pajamas? Perfectly reasonable.

Oh, I would SO want to add my foot to the whupping... Glad you knew about it and that you could give him the facts about how cruel some people can be. Sucks, but that's a fact of life. Hopefully one day she'll get what's coming to her (besides a foot in the rear).

That kid is sooo deserving of your foot! For some reason, and I just realized that it starts at a very young age, people can't just seem to be happy for other people who are happy... Hope their "happy" story continues without you having to interfer!

What a bitch! I'm sorry but I recommend giving that girl the bunny treatment. I'm all the way on the other side of the pond and I'm pissed off!

-seeing red-

I really can't believe that bullshit. Seriously. Poor Little Guy! He is probably so confused right now!

You know, it's funny because we all say it's "high school stuff" but I know plenty of grown women who can act like this too.

Face it, some females, whether younger or older, just feel like being antagonistic when their life isn't going up to par. it's stupid, childish, but true.

that's ridiculous. tell little guy to keep his chin up and it will all be okay. :]

and keep us updated on the bitch from hell!

Okay, I know it's all very high schoolish and it will pass and these are the kinds of lessons everyone has to learn and blah, blah blah. I'd still want to plant my foot on Sally's butt. And forget the bunny slippers too. I'd want steel tipped boots like you'd wear in some kind of manufacturing plant where OSHA comes in and acts like the shoe police. I don't care how old our kids get, there's something that brings out the lioness in us when our kids are treated badly. I think this is why God gave me such a vivid imagination. Maybe I can't resort to pure carnage in protection of my young 'uns, but no one can censor what I'm thinking. :)

Hi Attila,
Reading your post made me glad that high school, with it’s attending heartache, misery and “social insecurity” are long over but not forgotten. I think we all remember the fun times as well as the embarrassing moments that are inescapable for teenagers. Little Guy’s got two wonderful parents to help guide him through the rough periods and a “Hot Chick” to hang around with…what else could a 17-year old male want? Well, we won’t go there….he, he!

It sounds to me like everyone - including Sally - might have learned a thing or two. Bet it doesn't happen again! (Then bunny slippers would definitely be in order!)

It is so high school, but isn't it kinda nice to seem him experiencing normal high school bullshit?

Egad, man. I'm glad I'm not in high school anymore. Ick. Sorry that the little dude has to deal with it, but hopefully he's learning something.

Now MY foot is twitching!
Some people just can't stand to see other folks happy, so they have to put a fly in the ointment. At least there were caring parents involved to help him navigate this new minefield!

Dear ATM,
I feel so much anger: LG is such a sweetheart, I would want to protect him all day long. I hope that he "learned" a little (I would prefer that would not be necessary)about how bad somme people can be. Glad you knew about the "story" and could help him. ((LG))

That is just SO wrong!

I could never work at a high school...I'd want to slap kids like Sally all day long! LOL

This girl sounds truly deserving of the bunny slipper. You're a better woman than I for showing restraint--I might not have been able to control myself if dealing with the same circumstances. It is typical high school, mean girl behavior...and it sucks. The best you can do is explain it to Little Guy and help him deal with the b.s.; ooh, this stuff just burns me!
