Tide is the New Crack

Apparently, there is a new "Grime Wave" we have to look forward to. In certain U.S. cities, thefts of the laundry detergent Tide have sky-rocketed.

Due to the low economy and rising costs of name-brand detergents, thieves have taken to stealing and selling Tide on the street.

"We sent in an informant to buy drugs," Sprague said. "The dealer said, 'I don't have drugs, but I could sell you 15 bottles of Tide.'"

Never in a million years would I have seen this coming! LOL

As a supermarket employee I cn tell you I am not surprised. Not only do people steal it, thy use most of it Refil it with water , and try to return it. The creativity if thieves knows no bounds!

I'm not surprised. There are weeks recently (half the fam is unemployed) where I have to choose a tank of gas to get to and from work and forgo certain luxury items, like food, or laundry soap.

That is the craziest thing to read!

CRAZY!!
Of course you couldn’t have seen this coming – half (or more?) of the things going on these days are weird, crazy & totally unforeseeable!

I heard this yesterday and literally could not believe it. Of all things...TIDE? I know it's expensive, but it's also big, bulky, and heavy. This is not something someone can hide under a sleeve and slip out the door with.
Crazy. But inventive.

When I first heard this story I wondered if there was a new kind of Meth that could be made from Tide!! Then I read an article about it, and apparently it's just the thing to sell because people want to buy the expensive stuff at cut-rate prices.

Me, I'm starting to make my own powdered laundry detergent (recipes on-line at http://www.diynatural.com/simple-easy-fast-effective-jabs-homemade-laundry-detergent/). Cheap, and it works well!

Is life so desperate that people can't afford detergent!
That is sad.
I wonder when they will start stealing loo paper???

If you haven't noticed, toilet paper (at least the bulk from Costco - although a name brand) is about 3/8 of an inch narrower?

A thief will steal anything I reckon.
